Balancing Act

I suppose one of the reasons I wish to embark on this project is to help people feel connected.  Another inspiration for this endeavor is Dan Savage's 'It Gets Better' campaign.  It is a wonderful way of reaching out and letting people know there is a future worth looking forward to.  It is even better when that individual has some support helping them up, perhaps in the form of friends and family.  Although, even better, is someone helping you stay balanced while you've got support holding you up so that when you reach for that bright future you are sure to achieve it.  I'm hoping this project acts as a sense of balance for people.

In This Instance.

It is overwhelming how exciting this project seems.  I almost don't want to see this through out of fear that I may screw it up.  However, the amount of times this project has made me laugh, cry, and throw things in frustration over the past week is nothing short of flabbergasting.  I hope people see this project.  I hope that people like this project.  I hope this project will grow in ways that I have and have not imagined.  I like how organic the process is.  In the end, this project is helping me and if I can simply help one person while helping myself I can say it was a success.  For now, I know in this world of ours that I am in over my head, but I'm going to keep swimming for deeper waters because that's just fine by me.

I hope everyone who reads this has a great week.

Until Next Time,

My first letter

Today I was near tears and felt that I needed courage so I wrote a letter to someone who needs courage.  I want to re-write it to clean up my whorerendous spelling errors.  It is only a page handwritten, but it took me a long time to write it.  By the end I felt that I really went on a journey with the letter.  I was near tears, then found a sense of calm that seemed odd and finally I felt moved to action, even if it was a small action.  I hope that whoever eventually finds this letter needs it and also goes through a journey all their own.

Another inspiration for this project comes from reading Craigslist posts in the missed connections, casual encounters, and misc romance sections.  While most of it is rather lewd (seriously, no one wants to see your dick pics), every now and then there is a very touching post.  Here is one I liked so much that I saved it:

"Snow Dreams of an Amazon Cougar Mama - w4m - 47
She dreams of someone she's never encountered before. It's a fluke he's answering this ad, but most likely the catalyst was weather related mind wandering. This guy can really appreciate her, like no man ever has. She's not easily categorizable, and that makes other guys refuse the challenge before it ever begins. He isn't daunted, but rather excited at the prospect. Her physicality turns him on, she's as tall as he is, or very close to it (with that mane of hair she's nearly six feet tall). Long strong legs, pretty toes, lush bottom, strong arms, big smoldering eyes, soft skin, tempting full lips....mmm). His physicality turns her on...strong, healthy, younger, tall, gleaming eyes, his intellect and wit reflecting in them. Looking at him makes her want to grab and devour, lick, smell and savor.

He comes over to her den on a special evening when their times collide, and he takes in all that her pleasure den offers...massage, a hot soak, complete relaxation, beautiful music, soft lights, a fire flickering nearby. A certain kind of melting takes place. There is no awkwardness or wondering or weirdness...it's all about comfort on more than just the physical level...it feels right for both of them to be there...not just for the moment...but for many moments beyond. This is the beginning. This is the dream."

I find that when you are lonely (and not just sexually) that there is a place where you can see that other people are in the same position (again not just sexually).  That is what I hope to do with these letters.  Sure there may be more efficient ways of doing this and there is no guarantee that anyone who needs it will get access to these letters.  However, there is no guarantee that anyone would respond to your CL post.  For me the possibility for that level of pathos is enough to begin looking like art.

Letters For People Who Need Them

An excerpt from my notebook,

"Here's an idea: letters for people who need them.

The letters are addressed, "To Someone Who Needs [insert theme]," and left out in the world.  Will it reach someone who needs it?  I hope so.  An example may be: To Someone Who Needs Balance.

At the heart of this project is that these letters are probably letters I wish someone would write to me.  Such as, when I came up with this idea I was feeling a like my life has been rather unbalanced lately.  In the end I hope that connections are made and this large world wont seem so overwhelming.

It can be lonely out there.  You should write to someone.  It can be e-mail, snail mail, text, IM, hand-written, typed, smoke signals, or whatever works best for you."

What I hope to do is this very simple idea.  It is inspired by my friends that have a passion for hand-written letters, my own need to share personal aspects of my life in an artistic way, and mARK oWEns' puddle poems (he puts poems in puddles, it's pretty cool).  This idea is simply to write letters for someone and leave them out in the world for that someone to stumble upon.  Will it reach someone who needs it?  I hope so.

That said, if you come across such a letter, please share your experience having come across it.  Also, I'm going to set up a kickstarter for this project in the hopes that I'll be able to expand this idea, or at the very least pay for paper, pens, envelopes, and maybe a real website.

Thanks for reading.
